The most heralded and iconic magazine covers in the fashion industry tend to be the September American Vogue covers. Vogue is known for using their September issue to celebrate the top supermodels, celebrities and tastemakers across the globe. This year, instead of their typical cover featuring a model or musician, Vogue turned instead to one of my favorite artists, Kerry James Marshall. Kerry James Marshall is one of the most successful artists of our time. His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian and one of his pieces has sold for a record-breaking $21 million at Sotheby's. What I love the most about him, though, is the level of intentionality that he approaches his process with. It is based on a deep understanding of history and a desire to change it. Read on to hear his take on art and to see more of his work.
